Psychological Services

We are you. We live here and have family and friends here. We understand the rural lens, which means that we know how wonderful Southwest Queensland can be and the challenges that living here can bring. We also understand the need for discretion and confidentiality. We are an independent private service and are part of the local network. We know and can work alongside other providers to ensure you get the best care possible.

Assessment

At Rural Psych, we are proud of our range of comprehensive, standardised, evidence-based assessment tools. Providing both the Psychology and the Occupational Therapy perspective allows us to deeply understand an individual's functioning, from sensory processing to executive functioning skills.

Psychological Treatment & Support

Talk, feel understood, and collaborate. The way forward is simply to begin. At Rural Psych, we want to get to know you and help you achieve your goals. You bring openness and willingness to share your story; we will meet it with warmth, experience, and knowledge.

NDIS

Everybody deserves support to optimise their psychological and physical health. Rural Psych works with NDIS participants to help them to achieve their goals and maximise their quality of life. We can also use our  comprehensive standardised assessments to evidence disability and to support people wanting to access the NDIS. Already on the NDIS and ready to get started? Simply complete our NDIS intake form and we will draw up a Service Agreement.

Telehealth & eCounselling

Access for all. Telehealth is an effective and efficient way to overcome the barriers of distance. Rural Psych uses phone or Zoom as its platform for telehealth consults. Zoom uses  E2EE encryption. Your clinician will 'lock' the meeting to ensure no one can enter your session. Your session is totally private and secure.

Elder Wellbeing

Rural Psych’s program, Reflection Through Connection, uses the principles of narrative therapy, genealogy, and legacy to celebrate a senior's story. We collaborate with our seniors to reflect on their lives, valued relationships, life highlights, and the strengths they have drawn on to get them through the tough times. This culminates in our ‘Life board,' packed with images documenting their journey.

Seminars & Training

Rural Psych values supporting the learning of others who want to enrich their knowledge of mental health and wellbeing. We do this through training, educational activities (workshops, seminars, workplace activities), and group work, working with others' innate knowledge and building on it.

  • How do I make an appointment?
Booking an appointment is simple. Just call 07 4519 0761, and we will get back to you during business hours. Alternatively, you can use our convenient appointment booking form on our website.
  • How are you different from other mental health services?
Rural Psych’s understanding of the local lens, our commitment to clinical excellence and our strong network with the local community set us apart. We are a part of your community, living and working here, and have highly trained staff. We value discretion and confidentiality, and as an independent private service, we know and work alongside other local providers as needed.
  • How can I be referred?
Western Queensland Primary Health Network (GP referral)* Royal Flying Doctor Service Outback Mental Health Program ATSI Medicare referral (GP referral)* Queensland Ambulance Service (Priority One Program) Allied Health Service Under Medicare Scheme (GP Referral)* Queensland Police Service (Selfrefer Program) Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan (GP Referral)* National Disability Insurance Scheme Self-funded Private Health Insurance * Please note Medicare referrals are at the discretion of your medical provider.
  • What should I expect for my first appointment?
We want to get to know YOU! In your first session, we will focus not only on your troubles but also on your strengths, interests, and personality—what makes you tick. We may also ask you to complete some brief forms to provide a baseline measure of your mood. We will want to discuss your goals to make sure we are working on what is important to you.
  • What are your fees?
This will depend upon how you were referred. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan, have sought assistance through a service offered by your employer (QPS, QAS) or have been affected by a natural disaster, you can often access treatment at no cost.
  • I am trying to access the NDIS and I don’t know where to start…
Well… just begin! Contact us, and we may be able to assist with sourcing funding for an assessment to support NDIS access and, where relevant, diagnosis. If we can’t help, because we are local, we will likely know who can!
